Cairns - The Greatest Place Ever!

After volunteering finished Team Convent went to Cairns and met up with all the other ISV Australia teams, we went to the Great Barrier Reef, partied on the party bus (An open top London bus), stayed in Gilligan's (the best hostel ever), went quadbiking in the rainforest and went white water rafting on the Tulley river!
It has got to be one of the best places I have ever been, it's still 30 degrees in the winter! And I hate the cold with a passion.

Cairns, from Google Earth.

View from the hostel (Gilligan's) balcony.

The hostel bar, yes it had a bar!!

Not to mention a club!.... Party time, Tim and Rachel.

Party time, Rachel and Kozue.

Turtles at the aboriginal culture park.

The sour ants we had to lick! Our leaders insisted we lick them and it's true they were the sourest thing I have ever tasted.

Cairns lagoon = Amazing. Because of all the nasties in the water up here they made their own lagoon in the middle of the city, it even had sand!

And fish fountains! :D

Various reasons why you should not swim in Cairns, saltwater crocs, jellies, sharks.... I could go on!

Cairns carnival! It had a lovely atmosphere and everyone in the city was in party mode.

Aussie, aussie, aussie, oy, oy, oy!

More carnival times.

Anthony, Kaela, Tim and Emma on the minibus to the rainforest for quad biking, booked from our hostel for only $60!

Green tea ice cream, as you do.

Cairns square at night.

GILLIGAN'S :DDDD

More party time!

Gilligan's club.

Pre-drinking in the hostel, technically it was alcohol free in the rooms but who cares :P

Group photo at Gilligan's.

Me and lemur on the party bus! An open top London bus that took us around Cairns to experience the INSANE night life.

Before quadbiking, very attractive helmets!

Aboriginal spear throwing at the culture park.

Velvet underground (No I did not venture into the casino, the club was downstairs!)

Aboriginal dancing at the culture park, loved this :)

Another group photo in Gilligan's.

Serious mud moustache after quadbiking, the mud was pretty dry because of the heat so we got very muddy!

White water rafting on the tulley river, awesome! And honorary animal family member iguana.

You want to go to Cairns, GO NOW :D It's the party and adrenaline centre of Queensland, the weather is gorgeous, the great barrier reef is on its doorstep and you can partake in activities from bungee and skydiving to horse riding in the great rainforest.

Definitely a must-go city if you're ever on the east coast of Australia.
